Mile High Club Blogging

Southwest Realtime Flight Tracker

At an altitude of 39,001ft, this blog post is part of the mile-high club! Flying back to Tampa from Denver, I get to enjoy the luxury of wifi in the sky, thanks to Southwest for just $5. It’s not bad except it won’t allow my emails to come through my mac so instead of working I’m just surfing the internet. Catching up on Twitter, Pinterest, and online shopping.. well not really shopping, just adding items to the shopping cart and never making the full purchase. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve added these black leather pumps to my shopping cart on Mango.com and never actually bought them! They would be perfect for work, a thick heel for more support and they’ll go with almost everything but I just haven’t bought them. Maybe it’s a good practice in self-control.

Excited to get home tonight. I’ve spent that last two days in Denver and had lots of good meetings! Every time I go to Denver and see the snow-capped mountains, I just want to go ski, hike, or bike. Unfortunately, there was no playing on this trip but I’ve been promised another trip back this summer to catch a Rockies game. 🙂 I did enjoy the local cuisine of bison burgers for lunch and rainbow trout for dinner.  Delicious!

It’s actually been a busy week, spending my weekend in St. Augustine seeing our friend Chef Jessica Bright and working, now Denver, and tomorrow morning I go to Orlando to speak at the American Pie Council. Funny enough, if you’re flying Southwest, like me, you can see a blurb on the American Pie Council in your Spirit magazine! In addition to the travel, we’ve been busy with radio shows and media. Check out my talk this morning on BlogTalkRadio with Apple Capital, and Kelapo’s mention in the Tampa Bay Times and Oxygen Magazine in this month’s edition on national news stands!

The Steve Jobs of Coconut Oil

Everyone in Tampa Bay knows Charley Belcher, right?  He’s on Fox Good Day every morning covering local news pieces.  Last week, I got to meet Charley at a fabulous location on Davis Island for our coconut oil cooking demos.  I showed him how to make fried goat cheese bites, salmon burgers, and vegan chocolate cupcakes.  These were the same recipes that Alison and I made the week before at our Rolling Oats demonstrations in St. Pete and Tampa, if you happened to make it out.

My spots aired between Hurricane Irene coverage and news of Steve Jobs’ resignation from Apple.  Hence, Charley introduced me as the Steve Jobs of coconut oil!  Check it all out:

Media tour

Nothing like a week of press appearances to keep one’s self busy!  On top of the usual craziness, my week was filled with three different tv appearances for Kelapo.  I love being the face of the brand because, why not?  It’s my brand!  I’m in love with coconut oil!  And there’s no one better than myself to talk all about the benefits of coconut oil to the world.

I’ve never done any tv work before so I didn’t know fully what to expect but surprisingly I wasn’t all that nervous.  First, let’s put the week in prespective.  Sunday night, while eating dinner in Miami, it started pouring raining, lightning, and thundering.  A tropical depression popped up off the coast and created very bad weather for anyone trying to fly home.  Our flight was scheduled to depart at 10pm.  Finally, after midnight we took off from Miami and landed in Tampa, just an hour later but I still didn’t get to bed until around 2am.  The next morning I had to be on set at 9am.  There was very little sleep and lots of adrenaline for the first live tv appearance on channel 10.

Studio 10 Tv with hosts Jerome and Holley

With hosts Jerome and Holley, I prepared our smokey grilled cheese recipe, that was an instant hit at Expo East show we attended in Boston.  We also talked about other great uses of coconut oil, like in oatmeal, on eggs, and to saute vegetables.

The next day, I prepared again for my second tv appearance on Daytime, which is filmed in Tampa and broadcast to 100 markets in the US.  Talk about pressure!  It actually wasn’t bad, although, I did stress about doing my own hair and make-up.  I wish I could have my hair sylist with me on set!  We made magic shell and again talked about the benefits of coconut oil, especially for skincare.

Daytime with host Lindsay MacDonald

Later in the week, on Thursday, I traveled to Ft. Myers to film a segment on Fox news Morning Blend.  I woke up at 5am (yick) and got down there around 9.  This time I got to talk all about Kelapo coconut oil and explain why Kelapo really is the best coconut oil!  Many thanks to Fox for that opportunity.  Viewers from Ft. Myers can enjoy a special discount code on our website, ‘FOX’, for buy one Kelapo coconut oil product, get one 50% off for the next month.  Or any of you readers out there who are now in the know. 😉
